Recently, aquaculture farmers have been suffering from a variety of diseases that affect shrimp during the growing season and are using a variety of chemicals and antibiotics as part of their control.  As a result, when the disease is out of control, the immune system of the pathogen increases and eventually leads to the production of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) species.  In such situations probiotics as an alternative to antibiotics and chemicals have shown good results and the role of probiotics in controlling diseases in hatcheries and farmers from the time of seeding to the time of capture.  Probiotics are "a collection of useful micro-organisms that live" as they not only promote the growth and immunity of fish and shrimp but also improve water quality, thus contributing to the eco-friendly cultivation of biofuels (composted microbial complexes in probiotics).  Symbiotics are a mixture of pre biotics and there are many types of aqua probiotics available in the market today.

These can be classified into three types depending on the method of using.  

1.They are soil probiotics for the bottom of the pond 

2.Feed probiotics for shrimp feed.  

3.Water probiotics used to improve water quality 

1.Soil probiotics:

 Increasing the concentration of shrimp during the growing season, the bottom of the pond between crops, the lack of sunlight, waste, and the production of toxins and pathogens at the bottom of the waste feed pond.  Soil probiotics can help control this.  These include Rhodobacter, Rhodococcus, Nitrobacter, and Nitrosomonas, which break down organic and inorganic organic matter at the bottom of the pond, promoting the growth of plankton and destroying harmful bacteria.  


2.Fodder probiotics: -

Gut / feed "probiotics" are a group of bacteria belonging to the genus Lactobacillus, Enterococcus, Sacchromycin, and Streptococcus that contribute to digestion and growth.  They kill harmful bacteria by releasing some carbonic acid into the esophagus and reducing it in the esophagus.  Increased production of antibodies, granules and interferons through the use of forage probiotics.  Boosts digestion and immunity. 

3. Water probiotics: -

Water quality is a major factor in aquaculture.  Nitro doctor, Altero monas, Bacillus species feeders doubt that shrimp are susceptible to diseases due to toxic substances such as ammonia, nitrate, hydrogen sulfide etc. produced in the water during hatcheries and cultivation.

These help in breaking down the toxins released from fodder waste and excrement and turning them into useful derivatives. 

 Probiotics Applications: 

 For probiotics species 

 1 Bacillus species - Contributes to the growth

2. Lactobacillus      -  Prevents the growth of   acidophilus.               germs that cause diseases

3.Bacillus and.         -  to promote digestion.

 Lactobacillus            increase water quality


 4.B.coagulans.       - increase water quality

 5.L.del bruci.           - to cope with stress 


Instructions to farmers on the use of probiotics:-

 Water probiotics should be given at the rate of 500 g to 1 kg or 1-2 liters per acre once or twice a week, gut probiotic should be given at 7-10 g per kg fodder and soil probiotic at 25-50 kg per acre. 

 Note: Dosage of probiotics varies depending on water quality, shrimp health status, and forage percentage.  

The results of probiotics are not the same in all ponds.

The pond varies from pond to pond depending on the water quality of the pond, the weather temperature, the health status of the fish and shrimp from time to time, and no chemicals or drugs should be given in the pond on the same day immediately after the use of probiotics.

 Probiotics should not be given when the weather is cloudy or rainy.

 If probiotics are not given in the right dosage the expected result may not come.

As there are many types of probiotics available in the market at present, the farmer has to choose the probiotics that are suitable for the pond conditions and select the quality probiotics containing 10 g of bacterial complexes as per the depth and characteristics of their pond water.

It is also advisable to take the advice of technicians to select the probiotics groups depending on the need of the farmers.

 Uses of probiotics:

1. Improves water quality and reduces the severity of toxins.

 2. Produces digestive enzymes and enhances digestive energy.

3.Increases fodder exchange rate, 4.Increases immunity in prawns and fish.

5. Destroys harmful bacterial species.
